I am at once amazed at the fragility of man and yet astounded by the achievements of mankind.   Through war, peace, darkness, and rebirth man has endured the various challenges to this day.   We have created cities, explored the far reaches of our planet, and are looking within ourselves to unravel the mysteries of perception and the actuality of human consciousness itself.   Yet the juxtaposition of mans brutality reflected against our human abilities of compassion and heroism are staggering.   One can only ponder the fate of such a special race of creatures as ours.   For we know the past cannot be changed, but our future is what we make it.

We arose from a world coalesced from matter of ancient stellar explosions, and emerged from the primordial darkness nurtured by our suns energy.   Living creatures appeared and became more complex as time passed.   Man appeared several million years ago and whether our development was a miraculous divine intervention or the simple miracle of the evolutionary process, scientist and philosophers can decide.   As for our future, there could be a simple test to gauge the human spirit and hence our survival.

Look up into the dark night sky away from city lights. Witness the incredible vastness and see the multitude of stars and planets peering down like a magical light show.   If we feel small and powerless, we will forever remain chained to our DNA as slaves, and become fatalistic to our destiny.   If we feel apathetic or lose our sense of curiosity, we will remain ignorant and fade into obscurity, without meaning, without significance.   But as we look up and reflect upon the wonders, we can develop a universal interconnectedness with Nature and God.   We will find the Universe as one organic rhythmic system whose parts shimmer and change to universal principles, many of which yet to be revealed.   We can transcend the infinite and infinitesimal into a relative concept and understand that outer space is no more distant or vast than inner space, therefore the secrets of nature lies within us all.   Hence the meaning of our life can only come from within each of us.   With this acceptance, we can be at peace with our surroundings and are purpose revealed; for we are not just observers, but actors in a universe of incredible beauty and mystery.

Joseph Donzanti

A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space.   We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest.   A kind of optical delusion of consciousness.   This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.   Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty…     The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self.     … We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive.   -Albert Einstein, 1954

"I am not an Athenian, or a Greek, but a citizen of the world."   Socrates
